This work was completed as a part of my 2020-2021 AP Art Portfolio submission.

THUMBNAILS

WRITTEN STATEMENT

My portfolio is an investigation of significant memories from my past, with certain objects, people, and spaces emphasized through the use of bright colors, visual noise, and distorted planes. The images demonstrate a progression of my perception of both life and physical space over time.

Pieces 1-8 represent my early memories. Piece 1 is a depiction of my first memory; the distinct feeling of wonder in the enchanting colors of the fireworks. Pieces 3, 5, & 12 show interior spaces, significant due to the intimacy created by the presence of others. These pieces also highlight the intrigue of certain objects like the toy box in 3, clothespins in 5, or TV in 12 & 13. Pieces 4, 6, & 7 focus on exterior spaces where I felt a great sense of freedom in the open structure of outdoor play. Pieces 8, 11, & 14 show spaces where I felt a strong sense of isolation. All three share a sense of a vague outside world expressed through the color noise, or glitch in the windows of 8 & 14; or space outside of the cubicle in 11. Overall, the pieces delineate a sense of growing melancholy from an enthralling scene of fireworks to a darker outlook on life, born out of extended time spent alone in my room.
